SOLITUDE
My heartbreak was a foe
I could not face
I hadn't even the strength
to raise a white flag
With each turn I took to avoid it
It followed me
until I was surrounded
engulfed, trapped, with no place
left to turn.
I sent my heart away
So that she might be spared.
And I faced heartbreak
or rather it faced me.
There was no battle.
I was beaten from the start.
It stayed with me
like an albatross around my weary neck
Heartbreak took its toll on me
Leaving slowly as it was appeased
I haven't seen my heart since then,
although she sends me letters
giving me clues to her whereabouts
and longing to be found
Perhaps one day I'll search for her
But not today - too much to do.
I wouldn't know what to do with her
I can't remember how she works.
