SILENCE IS GOLDEN
To keep that golden silence
And say not an angry word,
Is often very difficult
When cruel comments have been heard,
Something wells up in us,
With the feeling, we are right,
It needs strength to be silent
And avoid a verbal fight,
It's not weakness to say nothing,
Hold our tongue inside our head,
It's far better than regretting
Something hurtful we have said,
Harsh words are often wounding
And can leave a deeper stain,
Far better to await the time
When seas are calm again;
Speech certainly is silver,
When they're words spoken with care,
And thought for others' feelings
And the relationship we share,
But the worth of golden silence,
When tempers are running high,
Is indeed a precious domain
In which happiness will lie.
