HIDDEN BEAUTY
In what variations do we see
The same view with different eyes,
One sees dullness, rooftops, chimneys,
Another looks up admiring the skies,
One walks on pavements and only sees
The concrete beneath his feet,
Yet another sees the grass that's growing
Where the flagstones meet,
One man, looking from the window
And seeing heavy rain,
Feels miserable, "It's so depressing,
When will the sun come out again?"
Still another, sees the beauty
In each raindrop, glistening so
And he knows it is essential
If glorious nature is to grow,
Eyes it seems, have different viewpoints,
Some only see the dull and grey,
While others search and find the beauty
In even the most ordinary day,
So many things have hidden beauty
Not apparent at first sight,
Just shrouded in a veil of grayness,
But it's beauty's there alright,
Finding loveliness in dullness
Needs very clear, wide open eyes,
To see the beauty in a raindrop,
Or brightness in the dullest skies.
