GOODBYE TO SUMMER
No
longer does the golden sun
Awake us with it's rays
And shine down from a clear, blue sky
On long, hot Summer days,
The last few faded roses
Still linger, till the last,
But even now their petals drop
As hips replace them fast,
The birdsong too has vanished,
Birds are busy on the ground,
Searching for a scrap of food,
Or berries to be found,
No more the childrens’ laughter,
As they run outside to play
In the briefest of their Summer clothes,
To keep the heat at bay,
No longer are the buzzing bees
Busily filling daylight hours,
In searching for the pollen
Hidden deeply in the flowers,
The squirrels too, are well aware
That Autumn's very near,
So they are gathering their Winter stores,
For when cold and frost are here,
Although, for more hot Summer days,
We'll have to wait awhile,
Autumn holds much treasure too
And Summer's left a smile.
